Balanced Meshless Method for Numerical Simulation of Pollutant Transport by Shallow Water Flow over Irregular Bed: Application in the Strait of Gibraltar

This paper focuses on the implementation of an accurate meshless scheme for simulation advection–diffusion non-active pollutant in a two-dimensional depth-averaged flow. The flow model includes shallow water system and propagation described by equation with diffusion tensor. mathematical was implemented using method based local radial basis functions. used to numerically evaluate spatial derivatives complemented second-order Runge–Kutta time evolution. To remove non-physical oscillations, which appear at discontinuity, filter hyperviscosity operator applied. investigate effectiveness accuracy proposed scheme, number tests are presented, including dam break problem, pure transport long channel. Finally, hypothetical example Strait Gibraltar is modeled. results obtained compared both analytical solutions finite volume Roe-MUSCL scheme. main advantages are: (i) simplicity implementation, (ii) ability handle calculations slowly varying flows or concentrations, as well rapidly containing shocks discontinuities, (iii) satisfy C-property guarantee positive values level concentration.
